The Ancient race began centuries ago with one very powerful, talented, and beautiful woman, Princess Lillian.  Lillian was the product of an ancient god and a very powerful priestess.  She never knew her father and was raised solely by her mother and fellow villagers.  At the right age, her mother told her everything about Lillian's father that she knew.  Lillian's father was an ancient god named Pinwa, which means power in the current Ancient language.  Every century or so, Pinwa comes down from the misty sky in search of a worth woman to impregnate for he wished to have a child as powerful, if not more powerful than himself.  Every attempt before Lillian failed, though.  Strangely enough, Lillian believed she was the powerful child who her father wanted and when she turned of age, she set out in the world to search for him and follow his ways, his dreams, and his hopes.

It took a couple of decades for Lillian to finally find her father and with him discovered true power and his real dream.  Pinwa wanted to create a new race, a race much like himself, but with all his power, was unable to.  Before they could create this race together, Lillian's father simply disappeared.  She believed him to be dead, for she was able to summon his power and combine it with her own to make her own race.

The Ancients aren't sure where they came from.  Some believed that they were once human and then infused with Princess Lillian's grand power.  Others believed they were demons given a greater power and the looks and feelings of humans.  Whatever the case, the truth is unknown as is the birth of the Ancient race.  Princess Lillian disappeared soon after their creation only reappearing every now and again when trouble arose.

As with every good, along comes evil.  Dark Ancients soon came to be and among those dark Ancients was a very powerful and very evil woman known as Shadow. If the Dark Ancients had a leader, Shadow would be it.  She was the first to separate from the Ancients to form the Dark Ancients.  Shadow was well known for her evil actions and killing nonstop, including killing her fellow Ancients, Dark and good alike.  Such actions were unheard of, which made Shadow one of the most feared Ancients of all.  It was agreed that Shadow had to be stopped.  

One night, Shadow was seduced by a very handsome man and on that night a child was conceived in Shadow's womb.  At first, Shadow was excited about the child, hoping to have a daughter as evil as her.  Using her power of Visions, though, she discovered the plot to be rid of her.  The man who impregnated her was Haileno, Princess Lillian's only son.  The man was the very essence of her, so much so that it was as if Princess Lillian impregnated Shadow herself.  Shadow foresaw the birth of her daughter and with it her own death.  Where power has failed, one unborn child succeed.  Shadow was enraged by this and cursed the child within her.  Whenever a daughter was born from Shadow's line, the mother will die during labor.  The only way for the mother to survive is for her to sacrifice her unborn daughter’s life for her own.  And this curse will continue until the last Ancient daughter, who will be Shadow's true daughter, a daughter of evil.  The day Shadow gave birth was the day she died and with that brought about a powerful succession of Ancient women.

Demons envied the Ancients and their power, and thus came to hate them.  Battles against demons and Ancients have raged on for centuries.  What Ancients survived from the battles decided to form a protective circle closer to the humans.  Twelve Ancient Ones, powerful male Ancients who lead Ancient villages, decided to form a circle which became known as the Circle of Twelve.  Each of the 12 villages took with them one of the 12 Books of Power, 12 powerful books that harbored the secrets to the Ancients' power.  At the top most village in the North was the head village with the most powerful Ancient One, Kasha.  At each point (South, East, West) there were other powerful Ancient Ones and their villages.  For some time the Circle protected the Ancient people, but all great things must come to an end.

One hundred years ago, Kasha was still the strongest Ancient One and the leader of the Northern village. His wife was in labor.  She knew she was dieing, as did Kasha, for she was giving birth to a daughter.  His wife, Willow, was from the Shadow linage and like all her mothers before, she was to die or sacrifice her child.  Being a woman of purity, though, she wasn't about to give up her child's life for her own.  Lily was born that night, never to know her mother and to be raised by her father and older brother by five years, Anubis.

As Lily grew, Kasha knew that she was going to be a child of power.  She held both rare traits that signified power in the Ancient race: black hair and gray eyes.  The villagers shunned her, knowing her ancestor Shadow and believed that she would one day destroy them all since she choose the path of the warrior and not the path of the healer such as all of her mothers before her.  So, Lily grew up with her fellow villagers hating her, but she had the love of her father and brother, which one day was taken from her.

Down in the Southern village, two decades or so before Lily was born, another Ancient was born, an Ancient male.  His name was Silver and though he had the Ancient silver hair of power, he lacked the "great power" known in most Ancient males and those with silver hair.  Silver was enraged by this thought and when he was of age and still having only the basic power, he approached the Ancient One of his village and asked for a solution.  The Ancient One could give him none and this just enraged Silver more.  Why could a man with so much power not grant power to others?  And that's when he got his idea.  The 12 Books of Power held the power of the Ancients.  They could grant him the power he sought.

So Silver left his village in search of a substitute power to hold him over and make him strong enough to get the 12 Books of Power.  While away, he discovered a dog demon power and infused it into him, giving him enough power to defeat whomever he wanted to defeat.  Using his influential abilities, he rounded up an army of humans and demons and raided the Southern Ancient village, killing the Ancient One who denied him and stealing his first Ancient Book of Power.  From there, he took down every other village until only one was left, the Northern village, but then he mysteriously disappeared for a few years, only to reappear after Lily was born.

As he did with all the other villages, Silver first approached the Ancient One, describing his problem and if the Ancient One can fix it. Kasha, though, knew who Silver was and what he had been doing.  Kasha was not so easily tricked by Silver, but said nothing to Silver, Lily or Anubis.  Kasha knew that this would not end well and order to guarantee his children's safety, he must sacrifice himself for them, something he was well prepared for.
